UNDERSTAND YOUR OPTIONS

What is Chemical peels?

A chemical peel applies a solution to remove selected outer skin layers. Superficial, medium and deep peels differ substantially. The name of an ingredient alone does not describe the complete strength, depth or recovery plan.American Academy of Dermatology

A consultation should establish the concern being treated, your skin tone and history, and the exact peel proposed. Preparation and follow-up become especially important with deeper treatment.American Academy of Dermatology

What it may help with

Depending on the peel, clinicians may treat selected discoloration, surface roughness, fine lines or some acne concerns. Results and the number of visits depend on depth and the condition.American Academy of Dermatology

Where it has limits

A light peel cannot be expected to produce the same change as deeper resurfacing. More intensity can also mean more risk and recovery. A deep peel is a medical procedure requiring an appropriate clinical setting.American Academy of Dermatology

PLAN YOUR BUDGET

How much does Chemical peels cost?

Quote by peel depth$1,829 ASPS benchmark covers broad skin resurfacing

ASPS reports $1,829 for the broader skin-resurfacing category, not for a typical superficial peel. Compare quotes for the exact depth, number of sessions and follow-up; anesthesia or facility costs may be separate.American Society of Plastic Surgeons

What changes the quote

  • Superficial, medium or deep peel
  • Preparation and aftercare products
  • Number of visits
  • Anesthesia and facility needs for deeper procedures

Published figures are context, not a price offered by this directory. Confirm the date, location, included services and total course cost with the practice. Financing changes the payment schedule, not necessarily the total amount owed.

KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT

Recovery and results timeline

Roughly 1–7 days for light peels; longer for deeper peels. These are source-based expectations, not a guarantee of an individual course.

  1. Superficial peel

AAD gives a healing range of one to seven days. Visible redness and scaling vary.

  2. Medium peel

Plan around seven to fourteen days of healing, with more pronounced swelling and peeling possible.

  3. Deep peel

Healing may take fourteen to twenty-one days, with additional follow-up and prolonged precautions. Ask separately about lingering redness.

American Academy of Dermatology

Returning to work, looking ready for an event, skin healing and the final result are different milestones. Ask about each one.

Before-and-after examples

Compare the same treatment, body area, lighting and follow-up time. A selected patient example does not establish a typical result or predict yours.

Published chemical-peel study showing the same participant at baseline and two follow-up time points

Study example: A, before treatment; B, four weeks after the first peel; C, two months after the second peel. This small, uncontrolled study used a specific medium-depth protocol. The image is not from a listed practice and does not predict an individual result.

MAKE AN INFORMED DECISION

Risks and suitability

Possible problems include persistent redness, pigment changes, scarring and infection. Experience treating your skin tone matters. Disclose cold sores, medicines and previous treatments, and obtain written instructions rather than choosing a peel by strength alone.American Academy of DermatologyAmerican Academy of Dermatology

Questions to bring to your consultation

  • Which solution and depth are you proposing, and why?
  • How much peeling and time away from work should I expect?
  • What preparation and follow-up appointments are required?
  • Can you show comparable cases with the same peel and skin tone?

Frequently asked questions

Will I peel visibly after every treatment?

Visible scaling depends on the procedure. The amount of peeling is not a reliable score of whether a treatment was appropriate or worthwhile; ask what response is expected for your exact plan.American Academy of Dermatology

Are before-and-after examples proof of a typical result?

No. A published case shows one person at specified time points. Lighting, concurrent skin care, treatment intensity and patient selection can all affect the comparison.Deda et al., Journal of Clinical Medicine (2025)
